This Adidas pop-up store will accept second-hand goods instead of real money

In an effort to promote sustainability, adidas is launching a one-day pop-up store in New York City where, rather than paying for clothes with real money, the brand will only accept used clothes and shoes (at weight) as currency.

For every half-pound of clothing, shoppers will receive one point, which they can spend on different items in the collection. The collection, which ranges from vintage tees to dresses and tracksuits, will cost anywhere from 2 to 15 points per item. The offer will range from unique, vintage and upcycled pieces to names you might recognize. adidas has partnered with major sustainable fashion voices like Theophilio, Ji Won Choi, Basketcase Gallery, Eva Joan Repair, Frankie Collective, Beepy Bella and Tyranny & Mutation.

“Sustainability plays a huge role in how we produce our pieces, so we are delighted to develop a bespoke collection made entirely from recycled products from a brand that shares our values,” said designer Theophilio and Designer’s Award winner. emerging CFDA 2021, Edvin Thompson. The pop-up follows the Choose to Give Back initiative, which adidas unveiled earlier this year to keep used clothing and shoes recirculated and prevent them from ending up in landfills.

The designs available at the NYC pop-up will be one of a kind. Consumers can only purchase two items and will be limited to 10 pounds of used equipment. It’s also possible to bring in old items for repair, thanks to Eva Joan, and get personalized beloved items via live screen printing by Basketcase. Personalization will only be available by 30 minute appointment, which can be done by sending an email to [email protected].

“Garment waste is a growing problem, but tackling it and moving towards a circular future will be our solution. At adidas, we see it as our responsibility to accompany our consumers on the journey and to raise awareness of how purchasing choices – from buying recycled shoes to donating end-of-life clothing. – can have a huge impact, ”said Katja Schreiber. , SVP of adidas on sustainability, in a press release. “We’re excited to bring this activation to life to show consumers that there can be a different and more sustainable fashion model. “

The one-day pop-up will be held at 61 Crosby Street in New York City from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11. Check out some photos from the lookbook for the pop-up, which showcases some of the pieces that will be available, below:
