Port Huron downtown store collecting shoes for a good cause

The Port Huron A Little Something storefront collects new and lightly used shoes for a good cause.

A Little Something, owned and operated by Touchstone Services, Inc., a non-profit organization, is launching a shoe drive and shoe drive this week through November 30 to raise money for the nonprofit Blue Water Clubhouse, which strives to create an environment where individuals can achieve success through the promotion of skills, persistence and more.

“We are thrilled with our shoe drive,” said Lucie DeLine, manager of A Little Something. “We know most people have extra shoes in their closets that they would like to give us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient.”

How the fundraiser works is that Funds2Orgs, a shoe drive fundraising company, will purchase all donated goods and Blue Water Clubhouse will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected, according to the A Little Something press release.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed through Funds2Orgs’ network of microenterprise partners in developing countries. Funds2Orgs helps poor people start, maintain and grow businesses and the proceeds from the sale of shoes are used to feed, clothe and house families, according to the press release.

By donating shoes to A Little Something, these shoes will get a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives.

“It’s a win-win for everyone,” DeLine said.

A Little Something is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. It is located at 205 Huron Avenue in downtown Port Huron.
