Local Essex Sainsbury’s store to close permanently

An Essex Sainsbury’s store is about to close for good.

Sainsbury’s Local in Spa Road, Hockley, is set to close next year, after the large supermarket announced in September 2019 that it was closing 30 to 40 convenience stores.

The company said 15 major supermarkets, 40 convenience stores – including Sainsbury’s Locals – and 70 Argos branches could close across the country.

However, he also planned to open ten new supermarkets, 110 new convenience stores and move 80 Argos branches to other Sainsbury’s stores.

One store that will close is in Essex – Sainsbury’s Local in Spa Road, Hockley.

Sainsbury’s said the decision to close stores is “never taken lightly” and that store closings are based on a “range of factors”.

The supermarket retailer added that closing the store was a “tough decision” but welcomes Spa Road Sainsbury’s shoppers at Rochford Local and Southend and Rayleigh Weir supermarkets.

There is no exact date for the closure of Sainsbury’s premises in Spa Road, Hockley, however, Sainsbury’s has confirmed that it will be “early next year”.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have made the difficult decision to close our Hockley Spa Local early next year.

“We understand that this will be a troubling time for those affected and we support them in any way we can.

“We look forward to welcoming customers to our other stores nearby, including our Rochford Local, as well as our Southend and Rayleigh Weir supermarkets. “
