Government and University of Massachusetts launch hackathon
Hyderabad: The Telangana Innovation Cell (TIC) in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts invited applications from all over India for students interested in research in data analysis.
On Friday, the Telangana government invited entries to the Data Analytics Hackathon competition. The competition is a joint initiative of the Telangana Innovation Cell and the University of Massachusetts, which will allow students to improve their research skills through data analysis.
The three-day competition will focus on improving the skills of students in STEM and social sciences across India. The competition titled “Data for Social-good Hackathon” will run from September 28 to October 1 of this year. The sponsor of this event is the Incubation Center-Hub of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, which is the knowledge partner of the organizers.
While data analytics is commonly associated with the innovation and IT industries, the hackathon competition aims to highlight the correlation between data analytics and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The collaboration hopes to orient students towards advanced research and use their technical knowledge for social development.
According to the competition rules, a team can have a maximum of four students belonging to the STEM or social sciences stream. The competition will also assess Telangana’s progress on the 17 SDGs.
