“Good grasp of socio-political issues,” says Tata Institute as candidates prepare for TISSNET exam

As the Tata Institute Of Social Science, also known as TISS, closes its application form on February 7 for the TISS National Entrance Test (TISSNET) 2022, candidates are preparing for the exams which will be held on February 26 February.

TISSNET, also known as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test, will be administered for the year 2022-24 in computerized mode. Although there is no age limit to sit for the TISSNET Entrance Test 2022, candidates must have completed their bachelor’s degree in any discipline or be in their final year of graduation.

Yatharth Badala, a candidate from Goregaon, said he aimed to enter TISS because their Master of Arts programs in the fields of human resource management, labor and organizational development were equivalent to pursuing an MBA. in the best colleges.

“TISSNET is a very important entrance exam, but for us who are interested in areas that include business administration, TISSMAT (management aptitude test) is something we look forward to,” said Badala, who added that when it comes to the paper model, 40 points goes for general knowledge questions, while reasoning and math see 30 points each.

“I have the impression that as far as Quantitative and Reasoning are concerned, it’s quite simple, but for General Cultures, I look for current events, news of interest, etc. I also refine my knowledge- do in Analytical Reasoning so luckily I qualify for TISSMAT,” said Badala, who has also given other management exams.

“TISS is considered one of the best institutes for management programs in HR and labor studies, so it was a no-brainer for me to prepare for its exam. 70-75 marks should be enough for me,” said Tarun Pandey, from Gwalior, who is also taking coaching classes to improve his general knowledge and English, but does not worry about the quantitative and reasoning sections.

Tarun also said that he is not sure if TISSMAT will happen this year as no notification has been released about it and it did not happen last year as well.

“Since there was no official notification about this, I am a bit skeptical whether TISSMAT will be conducted or not. The online assessment was mentioned in the notification which is a personal interview,” added Tarun, who claimed that another issue hampering his ability to get into TISS is the fact that most of the seats are reserved for applicants from Maharashtra for the Mumbai campus while “only 15 to 20 are reserved for students other states”.

Neeru, a student from Mumbai, is currently juggling her academic load and preparing for TISSNET, especially in the field of human resource management.

“After TISSNET there should be TISSMAT, but I can’t find any information on when it happens, what is the gap between the two and what program it covers. I applied for two courses, the second is counseling psychology and even who has a later exam called TISSPAT but again I don’t know when that will happen,” Neetu said adding that since the process changed post Covid she has not been able to find a lot of information and hope to know more about how to get admission card.

“I want information about the process after TISSNET is clear, because then I could plan my studies accordingly, but it’s a bit frustrating not to know,” Neetu added.

Amol Paranjpe, head of communications at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, said Stage 2 of the admissions process is the most critical part as applicants are shortlisted based on their performance in the first stage, c ie the review.

“Stage 2 will consist of various components such as written tests, online personal interviews, etc., and in order to shortlist the candidates for the fifty master programs, we are conducting this test,” said Mr. Paranjpe, who has also explained what they focus on throughout the set. evaluation process.

“In this test, we examine basic mathematics, reasoning, logical abilities and general awareness of developmental issues. At the same time we also try to understand whether the candidate has a good grasp of socio-political issues, whether the person has a good understanding of the basic English language. We aim to understand the preparation of the candidate to undertake these postgraduate programs,” Mr. Paranjpe added.
