DEKALB COUNTY, GA – Free groceries and school supplies will be given away this weekend in DeKalb County, thanks to the 11th annual Let’s Move! DeKalb event.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson and the Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully (CHOICES) extend their partnership to give back to the community for the free, planned annual event Saturday at 10 a.m. at the South DeKalb Mall Gallery, 2801 Candler Road, Decatur.

Healthy snacks, fresh produce, pantry items, back to school bags full of school supplies and fitness items for kids will be distributed while supplies last.

While it normally takes place indoors, it will take place outdoors for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will implement the mobile drive-thru model to serve attendees. All volunteers will wear face masks.

The event is free and registration is required to receive a school loot bag. To register, visit Healthykidsdekalb.eventbrite.com.

“We never imagined that we would be facing COVID-19 a year and a half later, but we cannot stop serving our community even during a pandemic,” Johnson said in a press release. “We need to make sure our families have what they need more than ever. “

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help educate the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that by 2021, about 42 million Americans may not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
