Foxxy’s dream becomes a fierce reality

SALIDA, Colorado – The mountain town isn’t just for outdoor enthusiasts, Salida’s boutiques create a fun, funky, and fierce shopping experience. But for one store owner, this small town has made her childhood dream come true.

“I just wanted to bring a hip style that was affordable and something that people of all ages could find a connection to,” said Lisa Wilborn, owner of Fierce and Foxxy.

Fierce and Foxxy opened in July 2020, at the height of the pandemic. Although Wilborn is not originally from Salida, she has lived in the city for nine years and worked two jobs so she could open her first shop.

“During Covid, I actually couldn’t do my other two jobs. So this place was open here in Salida, and I just grabbed it and decided to go for it,” Wilborn said.

She handpicks the items in her shop and wants people to look fierce and cunning.

“I keep up to date with trends, colors, styles and things like that,” Wilborn said. “It’s even a lot of intuition. I go with my instincts and I also like to go with what I know is right for someone. I’m also online and I don’t want a high return rate.

Wilborn wants customers to feel good about themselves wearing the clothes from his store. The clothes on her racks are also for all ages.

“I just want everyone to look their best regardless of their size, because size really doesn’t matter,” she said. “I have women who buy things in their 80s and 90s. So that’s a really broad age range.

Fierce and Foxxy wear sizes from XS to 3X. The store also offers options other than clothing.

“I also want gifts to be accessible like handbags and accessories,” Wilborn said. “I have tea items, and you know a lot of really nice and neat gift items.”

Building on its success in Salida, Wilborn plans to expand and open storefronts in other cities soon.

“The first year was absolutely fantastic and this year is even better and I’m looking for places to grow because it’s just getting crazy,” Wilborn said. “I’m so excited because they come here and they’re like, ‘I didn’t expect you want to bring it all home.

She encourages anyone with ambition to take the plunge and start their own business.

“You can do whatever you put your heart into,” Wilborn said. “It takes hard work and dedication and there will be days when you feel overwhelmed and ‘should you do this?’ And the answer is yes! You should totally do that. Work hard and you can totally achieve your dreams.

Fierce and Foxxy clothing store is located at 129 W 1st Street in Salida, in the heart of downtown.
