Byron Berline – Owner of the Double Stop Fiddle Shop
Byron Sedan was an icon in the music industry, not just in Guthrie, but all over the world.
He started playing the violin at the age of five and quickly developed his talent. He’s recorded with artists like Rod Stewart, the Eagles, the Rolling Stones, even Elton John and Bob Dylan and countless others.
Byron and his band performed every two weeks at his Guthrie store, The Double Stop Fiddle Shop.
Sadly, about a month ago, Byron had two strokes and died of complications around 7:30 p.m. Saturday – just as his band took to the stage.
Byron and his wife Bette had a daughter and four grandchildren.
Bette said they would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary next month.
âAnd the most fun, exciting and wonderful 53 years you could wish for,â said Bette.
To his family, he was more than the accomplished musician who traveled the world.
âHe was a great dad and a great husband. He kind of prepared me for this with all the trips he’s been on, but I always knew he was coming home. a little hard to think that now he’s not coming home, âBette said.
Byron opened The Double Stop in 1995. In 2019, the store burned down.
Byron showed resilience by opening a new venue across the street with a music hall where he could host jam sessions.
Bette remembers walking through the store on Sunday after her death and noticing a trio of musicians performing outside the store in honor of the man who meant so much to so many people.
âHe was special to a lot, a lot and a lot of people, you can see it on social media. I wonder if I underestimated him because he was one of a kind, âsaid Bette.
The family are planning a good old-fashioned jam session on Saturday, July 17 at 10 a.m. at the music hall and invite all the musicians out, because that’s how Byron would have wanted it.
