5 taken during the holidays of July 4: Five people were shot dead, one seriously, in what appear to be three unrelated shootings in Syracuse on the night of Sunday, July 4 to Monday. Two people presented to the University Hospital of Northern State with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, while the most serious of the three shootings occurred around 1:14 a.m. during some sort of party or gathering in the Elmwood area of ​​town. A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and two teenagers were shot in the back; the 20-year-old was classified in critical condition on Monday.

Delicate situation: New York State Police are investigating reports of a tar-like substance that spilled on Route 31 in Verona on Friday and damaged several vehicles. A driver said his car started to shake when he got on the Thruway.

“Dozens” of illegal massage parlors at CNY: Police recently closed massage parlors selling sex in Cicero and Solvay, and more cases are expected soon according to police and a prosecutor. The women who worked there were accused of prostitution and were not allowed to perform massages.
