2022 ‘So. Maryland So Good’ Buy Local Guide Accepting Registrations for Farmers Markets, Farm Stands, Farm Shops and CSAs
The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) updates the annual report ‘So. Maryland, So Good’ Buy Local Guide featuring regional farmers markets, farm shops and stalls, plus this year’s new agricultural CSAs.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 edition of the ‘So. Maryland, So Good’ Buy a Local Guidebook. Listings are open to Farmers Markets and Farms in Southern Maryland that host a Farm Shop or Farm Stand, and Farms that offer CSAs located in the 5 county area (Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s).
The intent of the Local Buying Guide is to provide a regional directory of farmers markets and on-farm retail options (in-person or online) that consumers can easily access without prior appointment.
Eligible lists include agricultural CSAs, farmers markets, agricultural stores and agricultural stands open to the public with regular hours/days of operation (seasonal or year-round), primarily offering livestock value-added products or made on the farm. (meats, dairy products, vegetables, plants and flowers, jams, pickles, etc.) and other farm foods grown in Maryland. Farmers’ Markets located in Greater Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia that host one or more Southern Maryland Farm Vendors may be included in the Buy Local Guide.
The guide also lists which markets, stores, stalls, and CSAs accept Federal Nutrition Program benefits, and which offer matching Maryland Market Money (MMM) dollars. Farmers markets or farmers (hosting farm stands/stores and CSAs) seeking to increase and diversify their source of income by accepting federal nutritional benefits are encouraged to apply for the MMM program. To submit a Buy Local Guide listing, search for the app under “News & Events” on the SMADC website. Registrations are due before February 28, 2022. There is no fee to register.
